Information for Minors

Declarations for new minors: Students can begin submitting declaration applications as soon as grades are posted on transcripts. Check your transcript regularly to see when the minor appears. Students will not receive any type of notifications, therefore it is the student’s responsibility to monitor their status!

~ A minor in criminal justice is available to all undergraduates except criminal justice majors. The minor requires 18 approved semester hours including: CJUS 1100/CJUS 1511 (new course number starting Fall 2023), 2340, and 12 semester hours of criminal justice electives (6 of these 12 hours must be at the upper-division (3000+) level or above). Requirements to Declare:

~ To become a CJ Minor, you must have a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA and have a declared Major (cannot be Pre-Criminal Justice or Criminal Justice). You also must have completed CJUS 1100/CJUS 1511 (new course number beginning Fall 2023) with a grade of C or above, with no more than two attempts at the class (grades of D, F, or W count as attempts).

~ If you meet the requirements above, you can send an email to cjusadvisor@charlotte.edu from your UNC Charlotte EMAIL to request admission to the minor. In this email, you must include your full name, student ID number, and the following statement: “I would like to add Criminal Justice as a minor.” The subject line must read: CJUS MINOR DECLARATION. If you do not use this subject line, your request may be missed.

* If you want us to drop your current minor, include that statement as well. (For example, “I would like to add Criminal Justice as a minor and drop my current minor of ________.”) Do not include this statement if you intend to double minor.
